Industrial Technology

The course is an introductory course for welding.  Students will learn to weld safety and efficiently.  They will learn about the different welding processes and complete a project before the completion of this class.  Students must pass the welding portion of I.T. in order to take any other welding classes in the future.

OXY-ACETYLENE PROCESS:

Students will learn how to safety operate a cutting torch to cut metal that will be used to weld on during the SMAW process.  Students will learn the parts of the oxy-fuel setup and the processes associated with them.

SHIELDING METAL ARC WELDING:

Students will safely learn how to correctly strike a welding arc, while turning in two welding assignments: a three bead (three welding beads made on a piece of metal that the students previously cut out), and a butt/lap/T-joint weld that is completed on metal that was cut out.  Students will learn to weld different welding joints and will be graded on the accuracy of these joints and the work ethic applied to complete assignments.

GAS METAL ARC WELDING:

Students will learn to safely operate a MIG welder and the processes used to weld correctly.  Student will be required to turn in a three bead weld using 18 Gauge metal, and a BLT joint.  Students will learn to weld different joints and will experiment with different welding techniques. 

PROJECTS:

Students will be required to complete a welding project for this portion of industrial technology.  They will have a choice to weld together a dice, or will cut out a picture using the plasma cutter.  The picture will be limited in size to one square foot.  The students will have their choice in which welding process they will weld the dice together with.  Once the welds are complete they will grind down and polish all welds before drilling the holes.
